Information about current sales from the KSU Poultry Research and Teaching Center
Fall 2009 pullet sale:
Orders are currently being taken for our 3rd pullet sale. Proceeds from the sale will be used to help with updates at the teaching and research farm to make it better able to serve students in the department.
The pullets are high production hybrid crosses and will make excellent farm birds for pen or free range. We have a White Leghorn hybrid that will lay white eggs and a New Hampshire hybrid that will lay brown eggs. They are very feed efficient and will produce the most economical eggs you could produce.
Each pullet has been slightly beak trimmed and will be fully vaccinated. They will be about 18 weeks of age at pick up and will start to lay almost immediately upon arrival. Our target date for the sale will be right around state fair time, the first week of September. We hope to have pullets ready for sale twice each year on KSU's Open House date and at state fair time. Because feed and chick costs are moving up and down, we do not yet know the final price, however, our white egg birds should be $5 +/- and our brown egg birds will be $6 +/-. Call us now to reserve your pullets at 785-539-5041 or send an e-mail to sbeyer@ksu.edu.
Meat-type Broilers:
From time to time, the farm will have broiler chicks or mature birds for sale from various teaching projects at the farm. The birds can be finished at the farm and processed. These are a very fast growing line of meat-type birds with high yield. Prices depend on age and quantity and are not available all all times. Please call for availability.
Hatching eggs:
The farm has a very limited number of mixed breed hatching eggs available for hatch projects in the classroom.
